This shingled ranch in Westerly, Rhode Island was built in 1949. The original owner crafted the kitchen cabinets himself and oversaw the construction of a knotty pine paneled country home. The same family lived in the house until it was purchased last year by the new owners.

Homeowners: Scott and Shayla Adams

General Contractor: Sweenor Builders

Location: Westerly, RI

Scope: Scott and Shayla bought the house recently for their growing family. It’s currently a little over 2,000 square feet with four bedrooms. They plan to change the style from a ranch to a Dutch Colonial. A slight bump out in the back increases the size of the kitchen and dining room and opens the floor plan.

A second floor addition adds 1,000 square feet and makes space for a new master suite plus bedrooms for the two girls, Emily and Malin. The first floor features a spacious guest bedroom, an office and a laundry room. A deck wraps around the back of the house. Future plans call for a detached two-car garage.
