How To Quiet Knocking Baseboard Heat

Remove the front cover and adjustable damper from the baseboard heater.
Check for a plastic slider beneath the heating element at each metal carrier. If a slider has shifted out of position, center it on the carrier. If a slider is missing, replace it.
If there’s a return pipe running along the top of the metal carriers, be sure there’s a spacer or insulator around the pipe at each carrier. If there are no spacers, install them to keep the pipe from resting directly on the carriers.
To prevent the pipe from contacting wood framing inside a wall, place a split spacer onto the pipe and then push the spacer deep into the wall.
